Bay of Loutro

Did the Phoenicians touch your skin? Feel the surface
of your body soft in the hot noon, when not even

or have you, too, forgotten the centuries?
Are you too young to remember the Turks, the Germans?
Do the mountains know you? Have they seen you pass?
Do you remember at all, or have you learned to let go,
to forget and live, to lie silent in your depth.
