On the Road

by Elaina Turpin
Riding behind a land yacht
passing wind farms and apple orchards
the scent of sage brush
draws forth childhood memories.

Proving myself as good as the boys
getting lost with scorpions
finding a touch of history
buried ice in a hundred degrees.

One weekend, one year,
my long past youth
hoping to bring to my children
we travel east.

As the baby starts to cry
a ghost of a rainbow appears
a sign of good luck
or just rain?
Elaina Turpin is currently on the road near the Oregon/Washington border. She has her hands full with three kids, two boys and one girl, but she still finds time to read, write and take an insane number of pictures.
